How-To GuidesGet on the air

Get on the air.
Use what you have.

A hotspot, a repeater, a phone, or a PC. Each one has a path into RI Digital Link, and every path ends up in the same conversation. Find your setup below, or open a full step-by-step guide.

By radio

Hotspot settings, mode by mode.

Pi-Star, WPSD, OpenSpot and most MMDVM hotspots use these settings. Set one, key up, and you're on the network.

DMR TG 31444

On Brandmeister or TGIF. Timeslot 2 on most hotspots. Program a Group Call contact named RI DIGITAL LINK, ID 31444.

YSF / Fusion RI DIGITAL LINK #31444

Pick the YSF reflector named RI DIGITAL LINK, ID 31444, from your hotspot's YSF startup host list.

D-Star DCS059 A / XLX059 A

Link to the reflector, then set URCALL back to CQCQCQ or "Use Reflector" to talk. Send UNLINK when you're done.

P25 31444

Select P25 reflector 31444 as your hotspot's startup reflector, or dial it from the radio.

NXDN 31444

Select NXDN reflector 31444 as your startup reflector.

M17 M17-003 module A

Point any M17 hotspot or client at reflector M17-003, module A. If it isn't in your client's host list yet, add host ridigitallink.net, port 17000.

AllStar Node 45595

From your own AllStar node, send *345595 to connect. See the command reference below.

IRLP 9871

From an IRLP node, dial 9871, the Tri-State Reflector channel linked to the network. Dial 73 to disconnect.

Running a repeater instead of a hotspot?

Repeaters can link in too. How depends on the controller, and it's always the trustee's decision, not an individual user's. Please contact us first. No permanent links without a control operator's OK.

  • DMR (MMDVM controller): connect to Brandmeister or TGIF and carry TG 31444, the same as a hotspot.
  • Fusion (MMDVM controller): link to YSF reflector RI DIGITAL LINK #31444. A Yaesu Wires-X-only repeater (HRI-200) can't reach a YSF reflector directly and needs a separate bridge.
  • D-Star (MMDVM controller): link to DCS059 A / XLX059 A.
  • AllStar repeater (ASL / app_rpt): link to node 45595.
DMR

Two DMR networks, one talkgroup.

Brandmeister and TGIF are separate networks run by different groups. Both carry TG 31444 into RI Digital Link, but an account on one doesn't give you access to the other.

Network 01

Brandmeister

  1. Get a free DMR ID from RadioID.net if you don't have one.
  2. Log in to Brandmeister SelfCare and set a hotspot security password.
  3. Enter that password in your hotspot's DMR settings, then add TG 31444 on timeslot 2.

Network 02

TGIF

  1. Get a free DMR ID from RadioID.net if you don't have one.
  2. Create a free account at tgif.network, verify your callsign and email, and generate a security key.
  3. Enter the security key in your hotspot's DMR settings, then set TG 31444.

AllStar only

DTMF command reference.

Send these from your own AllStar node, on RF or from its console. They do nothing on DMR, YSF, D-Star or EchoLink.

*345595Connect to the hub, full two-way
*245595Connect, monitor only
*145595Disconnect from the hub
Licensed callsign required

Your hotspot, node or app must identify with a valid amateur callsign. Stations that don't may be muted or blocked.

Pause 3 to 4 seconds

Leave a gap between overs so every linked RF and digital path can reset without clipping audio.

Ask before linking

Don't link other networks or permanent systems without a control operator's permission.
